Last time I walked Wikie Road (Behind Selegie Road), it was about fifty years ago. Today, I wanted to view a Photography Exhibition that was house at 11 Mount Sophia Road, I have to walk through it. As I took my slow stroll, lots of old memories and heartaches oozed from the past. Went I was young then, my mum used to ask me to fetch my younger brother Kok Weng to Shan San Primary School, which was located at the end of Wikie Road (Now opposite St. Margerate Primary). I still can recall if the weather was hot, we could hear cicadas screeching along the path we walked. But good days did not last long, my brother, Kok Weng died at the age of 10 with an unknown disease at General Hospital. I lost my dearest childhood playmate; as he was only one year younger than me.

This unique house must be rebuilt under the new owner; it has an interesting outlook.

This church was at the junction of Wikie Road and Niven Road, as far as I am concerned, it was there when I was as young as seven years old.

The world is indeed very small,I used to live in the bungalow at Adis Road (off Mount Sophia Road) just next door to the 2nd photo of Nan Hua Girls School from 1962 to 1979. The Presbytarian church at the foot of Mount Sophia Road also brings back memories for me as I used to walk every past the church every day to and from school. We all share collective memories of the buildings from the past and it is sad when buildings of our youth are torn down and the landscape changes irreversibly.

Well, we were neighbours. I used to pass by but from the other side, the Rex Theatre. I walked to Chung Hua Girls' Primary School (cough...I am a man) located at Niven Road. I missed the Bangalow style school. Before it was demolised sometimes in 2000, I went in the vacated premise. I was stunned as I saw my childhood in 1970s. Nothing had changed: Classrooms, wooden stairs, general office, old toilets were as original, except all wooden tables and chairs were stacked up randomly. No electricity, nobody except bats were flying around the corners. I sat on a stone seat in the tuckshop, but the roof was torn. It was so quiet, fresh smell in the air, I only heard cricket. I took some shots which were not taken as the films did not roll properly. Gone! I left to buy some curry puffs at a coffee shop opposite Rex Theatre. I believe it is still the same old taste 30 years ago. I strolled to a park (forgotten the name)to San San Primary which was occupied by Nanyang Acadamy(?). I then went down to Selegie Road.
